Safety gets personal with photo information boards

A Castell Iso-Lok product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Apr 8, 2003

To maximise the impact of safety warnings when personnel are working on dangerous machinery, Castell Iso-Lok introduces highly visible safety information boards featuring embedded photographs

The boards reinforce the danger message with a personal picture, and enable simple identification of who is working on plant or machinery, contributing to a greater degree of workplace safety and efficiency.

The boards provide a clear warning that a machine is locked off for maintenance or cleaning, and introduce a human factor to the warning.

The psychological effect of this can provide a greater degree of safety than an ordinary danger board.

They also make clear that someone is responsible for the lock-off, and that steps are being taken by that person to make the machine or equipment operational again.

Use of the boards is particularly advantageous when several maintenance or cleaning teams are working in the same area, or when contractors are carrying out such work.

Managers and other teams or personnel can tell at a glance who is working in an area, or on a particular piece of equipment, aiding effective workplace communication.

To eliminate the possibility of a board being removed by mistake, each comes with a unique personal padlock attached.

There are 50,000 different locking mechanisms (or 'differs') available, and to prevent the duplication of a mechanism at a particular site, Castell Iso-Lok keeps a permanent register of padlocks supplied to each customer.
