Captiva launch valve sealing review

A Captiva Sealing Consultants product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Jun 27, 2008

Valve sealing has been a hot topic recently, the introduction of international standards such as API 622 and ISO 15848 have focused attention on achieving low emission performance from process valves

The trend away from the traditional braided packing materials towards engineered seals such as cup and cone designs seems to be in reverse, as manufacturers strive to meet standards such as API 622, so have we come full circle with packing designs.

This is one of the questions Captiva has set out to answer in its review of valve sealing.

Focusing on the use of packing materials on existing valves, the report looks at how valve conditions affect performance, the advantages and disadvantages of the three main seal groups, engineered sets, braided materials and PTFE based seals, and, how installation practices can affect long term performance.

The report is aimed at users, who need to understand the implications for particular seal designs, and the requirements for a successful implementation.
