The NetGenPlus, an m-CHP system designed to generate electricity and provide hot water and central heating for homes and small businesses, has has been awarded European "CE" safety approval

Ceramic Fuel Cells (CFCL), a leading developer of solid oxide fuel cells and provider of enabling technology for micro-combined heat and power (m-CHP) units, has been awarded European "CE" safety approval for NetGenPlus, the m-CHP Microgeneration Fuel Cell System designed to generate electricity and provide hot water and central heating for homes and small businesses NetGenPlus is the CFCL third CHP system to receive CE ("Conformite Europeene") approval, which is required before CHP units can be deployed in Europe in field trials and then on a commercial scale

The CE tests of the NetGenPlus unit were conducted by the Netherlands-based independent technical specialist, Kiwa Gastec Certification, the European market leader for testing and certification of gas related products.

The NetGenPlus unit can be easily connected to existing gas and electricity networks and has similar characteristics to its predecessor, NetGen, with the more powerful Gennex fuel cell module - launched by CFCL in late 2006 - installed inside.

NetGenPlus is powered by the CFCL advanced metal-ceramic fuel cell stack, running on natural gas.

NetGenPlus units will be installed with leading utility customers and appliance partners as part of product development projects in Germany, France, UK, and Benelux.

CFCL partners EWE and Bruns in Germany and De Dietrich Thermique in France, have already received NetGen units and CFCL expects to commence the roll out of the next generation NetGenPlus units to its other partners, Gaz de France (the largest gas company in Europe), Remeha / De Dietrich (the largest gas boiler maker in France and Holland), Nuon (a leading Dutch energy company) and E.ON UK (the UK's largest integrated power and gas company) in the coming months.

The CFCL utility partners combined have more than 20 million customers across Europe.

Brendan Dow, Managing Director, commented: "CE is a demanding, rigorous test carried out by independent technical specialists.

Securing CE approval requires significant expertise in designing and building complete, fully integrated combined heat and power units which have been independently tested in real world conditions.

The award of this certificate of safety for our NetGenPlus unit underscores our progress towards commercialisation across Europe".
