Bowl centrifuges separate oily sludge
CSG Lanstar, a part of Cleansing Service Group, has recently installed two bowl-type separators from Centriquip to process oily sludge for its industrial customers
CSG Lanstar, a part of Cleansing Service Group , based in Manchester, has recently installed two bowl-type separators from Centriquip to process oily sludge for its industrial customers The equipment has proved to be much more effective than alternative technologies and has been installed in line with the company's policy of using Best Available Technology for handling a wide variety of 'difficult' waste streams including oil recovery and reconditioning

Ceramic liners cut decanter maintenance costs
Centriquip has cut the cost of maintaining the decanter centrifuges at Scottish Power in Glasgow by exchanging the old stainless steel and tungsten discharge port liners with new ceramic ones
The new machines are Centriquip AS460 bowl-type separators designed for super heavy-duty operation in the handling of highly abrasive solids from liquids - for example oily sludges contaminated with grit, metallic filings or even glass deposits.
CSG Lanstar initially rented the equipment from Centriquip before making the decision to purchase.
The machines now process liquid oily sludge from Lanstar customers to produce a cake of 50% dry solids and a liquid phase that, after further processing, produces recovered oil and a water stream suitable for drain disposal.

Decanter centrifuges using Duplex steel
Centriquip, the UK's largest manufacturer of decanter centrifuges, always uses duplex steel (a combination of the common austenitic and harder wearing ferritic steels) for high wear components
Neil Richards is Operations Manager for CSG Lanstar.
"We tried other technologies including belt presses and decanter separators for this application but nothing worked as well as the AS460," he commented.
All the machines in the Centriquip AS Range share a common method of operation: the feed liquid flows down through a stationary feed pipe and into the spinning centrifugal bowl.
The solids flow under centrifugal force to the inner wall of the bowl forming a relatively moisture-free cake.
When the bowl is filled to its maximum solids holding capacity the machine stops and discharges automatically; the cycle is then repeated under complete plc control either until the feed stock tank is empty or the unit is switched off.
By discharging when the bowl is stationary abrasion to the discharge mechanism is all but eliminated giving long intervals between services and low cost of ownership.
Centriquip AS Range machines are ideal for use in glass cutting and polishing operations or for handling concrete-like grindings from any process.
They have the ability to work round-the-clock, providing exceptional reliability in even the harshest conditions.
Centriquip is the UK's largest manufacturer of decanter centrifuges, providing a full service throughout industry for the processing of wastewater and industrial sludge.
The company also has the ability to service and repair any make of decanter and offers a much faster turn-round than provided by original equipment manufacturers.
