IR Thermometry: from Herschel to modern times
Dr F S Ritchie surveys the development of IR temperature measurement technology from the original experiments to modern Calex EL sensors used in many process industries
It has a deeply recessed blackbody calibration target which helps it to attain an impressive accuracy and stability of +/-0.5C, and has an emissivity value of greater than 0.98.
The blackbody calibration target has a diameter of 30mm; large enough to allow most infrared sensors to be mounted far enough from the blackbody source to avoid any direct heating of the sensor that could affect their readings.
A high-performance digital temperature controller is used in the ITC 600 allowing the user to select accurate, stable, calibration temperatures and profiles.
The blackbody target can heat from 20C to 600C, and stabilise, within two hours.
The ITC 600 can be used with any infrared temperature sensor that can measure temperatures between 100C and 600C, and is capable of focusing on a target spot size of less than 30 mm diameter.
