The emergency version also has a backup battery system to provide up to three hours of illumination in the event of a power failure.
The NexLED compact design (ATEX approved for Zone 1 - Class I, Div 1 equivalent) is very versatile and ideally suited to those applications in exposed conditions with high levels of dust and moisture.
Light output from LEDs is not affected by low temperatures so can be used down to minus 450C (-490F) even in emergency mode.
"The use of LEDs provides many advantages over traditional lighting technologies." says Sales and Marketing Director for Chalmit, Archie Haughey.
"LED systems provide a real alternative to fluorescent lamp based emergency lighting, particularly in areas with very low ambient temperatures.
Fluorescent lights operating in very cold regions would suffer from a greatly reduced output, whereas the output from an LED system is unaffected.
In fact the output from an LED actually increases by around 20% in these conditions.
They are also more efficient than incandescent and most tungsten halogen lights.
LED can operate for over 50000 hours so the need for re-lamping is eliminated in many applications.
In addition, this new lamp technology emits no heat or ultra violet light and is mercury free".
NexLED has the option of two (2 x 1W) or eight (8 x 1W) LEDs, both options providing low power consumption.
When in emergency mode, the internal battery provides the 2W version with 3 hours of operation and the 8W with 90 minutes.
NexLED is also available with a standard directional decal kit allowing the luminaire to be used as an emergency exit marker.
To survive installation in such harsh conditions; the NexLED enclosure is manufactured from corrosion resistant marine grade aluminium with a toughened glass cover, silicone rubber gasket and stainless steel fixings.
