Non contact IR only needs a small target

The CIRP non-contacting infra-red pyrometer will measure temperatures of a target spot of only 0.8 mm diameter from a distance to 5 mm and is capable of being used in hazardous areas

The CIRP non-contacting infra-red pyrometer, available from Celsum Technologies, will measure temperatures of a target spot of only 0.8 mm diameter from a distance to 5 mm, has a temperature range of -18C to 500C, and is capable of being used in hazardous areas by operating through an intrinsically safe barrier The CIRP was designed for use with capillary extrusion rheometers, including the Celsum BFR 2100 and Eta 2100 models, for detecting and measuring increases in temperature on the outside of extruding profiles due to frictional heating, also known as viscous dissipation or shear heating

Viscous heating can lead to premature cure or scorching, and can produce unexpected quirks in mechanical and physical properties by changing the pattern of residual stresses in the extruded section.

Says Celsum Technologies Managing Director, Roy Carter, "CIRP has a very compact measuring head that is sealed to IP65, IEC 549 and NEMA 4 standards.

We supply it with it's own conditioning electronics pack and computer system with our RheoTenax-CIRP software module, which has large-size onscreen displays that can easily be read from a distance.

This instrument has many uses, apart from monitoring extrusion in the laboratory or on a production plant.

For example, it can monitor moving components for condition monitoring and safety purposes." CIRP is incorporated in Celsum Technologies CEST (Combined Extrudate Swell and Temperature) package, which, together with a highly-accurate optical micrometer, allows simultaneous logging and display of extrudate dimensions and surface temperature.
