The new Pulsar online condition-monitoring system from Controlstar Systems is designed to carry out detailed vibrational analysis of equipment in either local or remote applications As well as enabling users to maximise the operating efficiency of their machinery, the data generated by Pulsar helps to reduce the cost of downtime for routine inspections and can trigger key maintenance activities to prevent potentially dangerous and expensive equipment failures

Pulsar is a DIN-rail-mounting, modular system comprising a base module which houses the communications and DSP functionality - together with up to eight additional modules, depending on the requirements of the individual application.

Providing 24/7 sentinel operation, the system continuously checks up to 64 different FFT profiles, each of which can be configured with up to four warning/alarm limits in four different frequency bands.

For local communications, the base module can be specified with either 10Mbit/s Ethernet or RS232 interfaces, while remote communication is via an internal GSM/GPRS connection, external Hayes-compatible modem or low-power radio links.

These flexible communication options enable data to be sent from remote sites back to a central point using a dial-up connection, intranet or the internet.

The system allows automatic upload of data to take advantage of low communication tariffs and reduce staff workload.

In the event of an alarm condition being detected, Pulsar alerts the user via dial-up connection or SMS message, in accordance with a configurable rota.

Any problems with the operation of the machinery can then be analysed remotely, and, if required, the Pulsar remote controlled instrument facility allows an engineer to intervene and use the system to carry out manually driven testing.

Supplied complete with free-issue browser-based software that can support thousands of units, the Pulsar system runs under Windows NT4, 2000, XP or Linux.
