With an increasing focus on rising energy costs, Coolmation has launched a new series of Eurovent-certified R134A chillers featuring the revolutionary centrifugal oil-free Turbocor compressor

Available in capacities from 150kW to 2,100kW the Turbocor range represents the next generation of chiller design offering outstanding energy efficiency With the compressor generally the single, largest energy consumer within the HVACR system, the Coolmation Turbocor range brings huge savings, offering significantly higher operating efficiencies than chillers using scroll, screw or reciprocating compressors

Compared with screw compressors, the Turbocor has an EER of up to 4.0 at full load conditions and in excess of 8.0 at part load, representing an efficiency increase of 10% and more than 100% respectively.

A huge saving since chillers operate at part load for most of their working lives.

Steve Warnock, Coolmation Group Managing Director explains: "Rhoss Turbocor chillers mark a dramatic technological leap forward in chiller efficiency.

Backed by Eurovent certification and the granting of ECA approval the Turbocor range of chillers will be guaranteed to offer huge running cost savings, an important factor with current concerns over accelerating fuel prices".

The Turbocor chillers feature a digitally controlled frictionless two stage centrifugal compressor which achieves outstanding energy reductions through the use of modern magnetic oil free bearings technology, avoiding the friction typically associated with traditional oiled bearings.

The compressor design comprises only one moving component - the compressor shaft.

Magnetic bearings keep this high-speed shaft suspended in the air and frictionless, so reducing wear, extending the chiller lifetime and keeping maintenance to an absolute minimum.

The compressors are also oil-free.

This not only helps to keep maintenance costs down but is also the key to sustainability by improving heat exchanger performance through the elimination of oil film between the coolant and heat exchange surfaces.

The frictionless bearings reduce the starting current to just 2A removing the transient starting spikes frequently associated with screw compressors and the need for expensive soft start arrangements, as well as eliminating the risk of penalty charges for exceeding maximum power demands.

In addition, stepless compressor speed control ranging from 25% to 100% contributes to both the chiller high efficiency and accurate set point temperatures at part load conditions.

Precise compressor speed control not only allows accurate matching of the load to chiller capacity but also means the chiller can react quickly to load changes.

Offering great reliability with low maintenance the Turbocor range is manufactured from aircraft grade aluminium castings with high strength thermoplastic electronics enclosures.

A rugged chiller suitable for the harshest environments, the Turbocor boasts a long operating life.

Designed to operate at extremely low sound levels, the low noise frequency is possible thanks to zero-vibration, even at start-up, and the elimination of the tonal problems typically found in screw compressor chillers.

This new Turbocor chiller range is the result of a unique partnership between Rhoss SPA and the University of Udine: Coolmation is the UK's exclusive distributor for Rhoss SPA products.

Energy efficiency is enhanced further by the application of electronic expansion valves, innovative heat exchange technology and highly intelligent control systems making them the quietest and most energy efficient chillers produced by Rhoss.

With offices in Lancashire, Leicestershire, Bedfordshire, Bristol and a Head Office in Ringwood, Hampshire, Coolmation operates nationwide in chiller sales and installation, service, hire and technical support.
