Castrol Lubecon keeps conveyors moving
A new, automated conveyor lubrication system from Castrol is proving that the best defence against equipment failure and downtime is proper lubrication and cleanliness
A new, automated conveyor lubrication system from Castrol is proving that the best defence against equipment failure and downtime is proper lubrication and cleanliness Castrol claims that by automating conveyor lubrication its Lubecon system can significantly increase conveyor chain and trolley life - and productivity - whilst reducing maintenance costs, downtime, lubricant usage, energy consumption and the possibility of product contamination

Castrol Lubecon is a dedicated conveyor lubrication system that offers an unrivalled combination of product range, equipment solution and service.
The comprehensive product range includes dry film lubricants, chain oils and greases; the extensive range of equipment available includes dispensing and conveyor cleaning systems and stretch monitoring equipment; and the Castrol service package, which is tailored to meet each customer's needs, typically includes regular service visits to ensure that equipment is functioning effectively; scheduled topping up of fluid reservoirs and preparing chain stretch reports.
Castrol Lubecon uses a computerised system controller that can provide accurate lubrication to as many as four different lubricators using fluid from a central reservoir with capacities up to 200 litres.

The lubricant is applied in exact quantities to a precise schedule and is infinitely variable to ensure effective lubrication at all times for components such as chain links and pins, trolleys, bearings and cat drives.
Conveyor monitoring uses a portable unit capable of measuring all combinations of conveyors with 3, 4 and 6 inch chains.
Windows-based software allows chain wear profiles to be used for future reference and wear trend analysis.
Lubricants and greases in the heavy duty, anti-wear Lubecon range are designed specifically for use in conveyor equipment and are specified to meet specific applications.
The effective penetrating characteristics of the thin film and dry film lubricants first act as cleaners, dissolving solidified grease and accumulated carbon, before leaving a highly stable lubricant film.
A change to Castrol dry/thin film lubricants applied using the Lubecon system has proved effective in significantly reducing or eliminating conveyor downtime due to breakages caused by poor lubrication, especially where lubrication has previously been applied manually.
In actual applications chain life has been greatly extended and, when applied to newly installed conveyor systems, many chains are still running after 10 years.
Castrol lubrication engineers carry out a full survey of the customer's conveyor system before product, equipment and service recommendations are made.
