Castrol introduces benchmark slideway lubricant

A Castrol product story

Castrol has introduced an improved version of its high-performance Magnaglide D slideway lubricant, long the benchmark for high-speed, high-volume precision grinding applications

Following a two year development programme Castrol has introduced an improved version of its high-performance Magnaglide D slideway lubricant, which has long been the benchmark for high-speed, high-volume precision grinding applications.

The new lubricant is claimed to outperform standard and high performance slideway lubricants offered by competitor companies and can enhance both machine protection and the quality of finished components.

It is especially effective in key areas of concern in grinding processes, such as eliminating judder, protecting slideways from wear and corrosion and separating easily from metalworking fluids.

It also meets or exceeds industry specifications including Cincinnati P47/P50 and DIN 51517 SGLP, and is approved by many major OEMs.

Excellent stick slip performance eliminates judder, allowing the slideway to move smoothly, even under extreme loads and temperatures.

This ensures that machines achieve consistently high component quality, particularly in applications where precise tolerances are vital.

The new formulation also includes specific additives to enhance the service life of the slideway.

These ensure that Magnaglide D cannot be easily washed off and can therefore protect the slideway and provide excellent corrosion protection, even under high-load conditions.

Due to the total loss systems employed on many machine tools, the performance of cutting fluids can degrade over time as a result of contamination by slideway lubricants.

To help prevent this, the Magnaglide D ability to separate from the cutting fluid has been significantly improved, enabling it to be easily removed from machine tool cutting fluid systems that use standard methods of oil filtration.

Magnaglide D is produced in two viscosity variants - ISO VG68 and VG220 - both of which will be available globally in a wide range of pack sizes.
