Logger monitors building site earth movements!
GBG Structural Services use the dataTaker DT800 data logger to monitor possible earth movement adjacent to a demoliton and construction site, where a Church structure was to be unaffected
GBG Structural Services use the dataTaker DT800 data logger to monitor possible earth movement adjacent to a demoliton and construction site.
GBG Structural Services provides a fully independent structural investigation services, consultancy to the civil engineering, building and construction industry, utilising non destructive testing instrumentation, materials testing and site investigations.
Although they work mainly with traditional materials such as concrete, masonry and steel, they also test and investigate new materials.
A recent project involved the monitoring of a demoliton and construction site with an adjacent church.
The developers wished to ensure that there were no adverse effects on the surrounding environment.
The developers consulted GBG Structural Services who selected a dataTaker DT800 data logger to provide continuous monitoring of any earth movements measured by the inclinometers and temperature sensors they had installed on the site.
This enables full system control including temperature correction calculations via the software installed in the DT800.
GSM modem links are in place for dial up access to allow regular downloading by the contractor and consultant should any problems occur.
The dataTaker DT800 data logger is ideal for many monitoring applications and was chosen by GBG Structural Services for this application as it met all their demanding criteria including speed, operating specification together with a robust construction enabling it to work to specification within the most demanding of areas.
The DT800 can store up to 130,000 data points for high speed data acquisition.
Removable ATA Flash PC cards provide data storage and battery-backed RAM to prevent any loss of data.
42 analogue channels and 16 digital channels can monitor DC and AC voltage, current, resistance, temperature, bridges, strain gauges, and 4-20mA loops and frequency.
Digital outputs control equipment and raise alarms.
Built-in, self-correcting features can test sensor integrity and flag suspect data for enhanced reliability.
Event management facilities provide performance analysis and changes can be identified by rapid sampling across channels.
Data manipulation includes statistical functions, calculations and sensor calibration.
Alarms can be set for all channels.
The dataTaker DT800 is simple to install and operate and is very fast, despite having a wide array of functions.
Data can be downloaded to a computer via direct RS232, modem, radio or satellite links.
Ethernet and PC card interface adaptors are standard features.
DeLogger software can be adapted to suit each application to give an immediate visual presentation for fast access to information and results.
