The Piltun Astokhskoye oil field and Lunskoye gas field at Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East have average winter temperatures in the -30C range with up to 1.5m of sea ice.

It represents the biggest single foreign investment in Russia and Shell's largest project worldwide.

The virtually maintenance-free optical instrument detects flammable hydrocarbon vapour concentrations within the 0-100%LFL range, generates a proportional 4-20mA analogue signal output, and is immune to the effects of traditional sensor contaminants such as silicone and hydride vapours.
The X3301 Protect•ir Multi-spectrum infrared flame detector provides a calibrated automatic optical integrity feature, and is the only detector on the market that employs microprocessor-based heated optics, providing reliable detection for any environmental condition.
X3301 has worldwide approvals and offers extended detection capabilities combined with the greatest degree of false alarm rejection.
A further reason given for the choice of Det-Tronics detectors was their ability to provide a one-stop shop, with a price commitment and after sales site support.
Additional system products being supplied include bought-in components of MAC, smoke and heat detectors.
