Designed to improve condensate draining, the Deublin Ecosint rotary siphon is intended for problem applications with slow speed (<400 m/min) paper making machines In these applications, condensate behaviour inside the rotating dryer can vary between 'puddling' and initial rimming conditions

Energy-efficient paper drying
To offer producers practical help in reducing paper producers costs, Deublin and Parsons Reiss are holding a series of nationwide seminars entitled; "Energy-efficient paper drying"
This poses problems for conventional siphons and leads to wasted energy, since undrained condensate reduces the efficient transfer of heat from the steam inside the dryer to the external paper layer.
The Ecosint rotary siphon has a large, wide angled scoop, designed to funnel the condensate into the open mouth siphon shoe.
When the condensate in the dryer is in a 'puddling' condition at low speeds, the siphon shoe has a very limited time in contact with the condensate and the large scoop allows this time to be as effective as possible.
For cascading condensate conditions, a special design with a condensate trap leg in the piping is available to reduce the amount of steam blow through.
The average energy use per tonne of product is around 16 GJ.
With the drying process accounting for some 75 per cent of steam consumption, in both pulp and paper machines, it is more important than ever that steam is used efficiently: in the drying of paper it takes 1.5 t of steam to dry 1 t of chemical pulp.
Since no single system is universally effective, Deublin has developed the most extensive range of steam joints, rotary unions and siphon systems to guarantee maximum performance under different operating conditions.
