Profinet IO stack operates with NET+Works tool kit
Digi International today announced that the Siemens Profinet IO stack operates with its NET+Works device networking tool kit
Digi International today announced that the Siemens Profinet IO stack operates with its NET+Works device networking tool kit.
NET+Works is a complete development environment for network enabling embedded devices specifically optimised for the NetSilicon family of 32-bit NET+ARM microprocessors.
The exceptional performance of the NET+Works package makes it easy for industrial automation equipment manufacturers to develop and sell their own branded Profinet IO devices.
"Profinet is a leading Ethernet standard for industrial automation," said Tim Counihan, vice president of marketing, NetSilicon products, Digi International.
"Industrial automation device manufacturers are looking for turnkey networking technology to address this emerging market.
The Profinet IO stack has been ported to and is fully interoperable with our NET+Works device networking tool kit and provides outstanding performance.
Even greater performance can be achieved using the unique NetSilicon stack bypass API.
Leveraging IT standards, Profinet is a fieldbus that runs on standard Ethernet with TCP/IP as well as an integration technology that speeds the configuration and re-configuration of equipment relationships," said Carl Henning, director of Profinet marketing, Profibus Trade Organisation.
"We are excited to see the availability of Profinet IO on the NetSilicon NET+Works development environment.
The ability of NET+Works to seamlessly and effortlessly integrate Profinet IO into products will allow device manufacturers to get to market much more quickly".
NET+Works 6.3 introduces a new stack bypass API which is specifically targeted at device networking applications requiring fast deterministic response such as industrial Ethernet.
By using this unique API in NET+Works, peak Profinet IO performance can be achieved.
The Profinet IO stack can run on any of Digi's NET+ARM processors or embedded modules.
The NET+Works 6.3 package includes the ThreadX real-time operating system (RTOS), a TCP/IP stack, and many device networking applications, including a webserver, email, FTP, Telnet, SNMPv3 and more.
NET+Works is bundled with either the Green Hills MULTI or Microcross GNU development tools, a target-specific development board with BSP and a debugger in an easy-to-use, integrated solution.
NET+Works 6.3 is now available.
The entire Digi family of embedded products is designed to make device networking easy and provides the seamless migration of customer applications software across Digi Connect and ConnectCore 9C modules and NetSilicon NET+ARM network microprocessors.
This reduces design costs by allowing customers to get to market quickly and leverage previous software investment across multiple hardware platforms.
