The stories
featured in this newsletter from Processingtalk just keep getting
better. The two June UK conferences, first Manufacturing Excellence
then the Profibus conference, provide interesting preview information,
and two complete papers from the presentations.
Broadley
Technologies describe a fully equipped benchtop Bioreactor system, for
a laboratory or small production unit.
BASF present a case
study relating to the work done on a joint SAP-AMS development applied
to their Seal Sands site, using the intelligence modern technology
builds into instrumentation, to apply condition based maintenance.
Eliminating the disconnect, as BASF describe it, improves efficiency
and plant utilisation.
Other items this week offered a
distillation of information on how to prevent hydraulic failures, and
how to access motor data for the full ABB range of 500 motors on-line.
This was complemented with news of a new 3 in 1 motor test unit from
Whitelegg machines, and a Motomate motor plus logic controller from
Crouzet.
From the industry a plea from Lifting Solutions
asks everyone to lobby their MPs over the unreasonably escalating
costs of compulsory Employee Liability Insurance, while a Plimsoll
study identifies 166 UK Instruments and Controls companies as
aggressive market chasers, achieving sales growth of 23%.

[3] MINIATURE PRESSURE SENSOR USES NEW DCE TECHNOLOGY

The new miniature
piezoresistive absolute pressure sensor, Type 4005A, from Kistler uses
new Direct Chip Exposure (DCE) technology to provide superb linearity,
minimal hysteresis and an extremely high natural frequency. The M5
size sensor is ideal for measurements in intake ports, gas exchange
investigations and many other static pressure measurements. The DCE
sensor design eliminates the need for an isolating steel diaphragm
leaving the piezoresistive silicon element directly exposed to the
gas. A fine screen and protective coating minimise the risk of the
element suffering physical damage.
