Nick Denbow, Editor, writes:

Just when I decided to ask for suppliers to send in lots more
technical articles and case studies, 20 or so come along at once.
This is the amazing total listed below, just those articles from this
week's mail that I consider well worth reading! The beauty of
Processingtalk is that it can archive all these lengthy articles and
reviews, so that when you need to find it later, for a project, it is
a lot more accessible (and tidier) than a pile of magazines.

While most stories are from manufacturers, we are also seeking
reviews from consultants and others who have no product allegiance -
they are always trying to promote their own services of course.
Several have been provided this week by Spitzer and Boyes, who run
instrumentation training courses in the USA. Whether its an
application story or a review of the technology available, please
remember to send in any of your articles, after first publication in
paper magazines if you prefer it that way. Remember, our archives
will go on and on producing sales enquiries, year after year, long
after the magazines have been pulped! Plus to help the readers find
the information, we are fully searchable, and all articles are freely
retrievable, electronically.

The Summer Sales seem to have started, with the first four Top Ten
stories boasting lower prices and 'more competitive' product ranges,
in IR thermal imaging, gas analysers, high resolution pressure
transmitters and electromagnetic flowmeters for the water industry.
Just to demonstrate the range of measurements the process industry
has to cover, we follow on with temperature, turbidity measurement,
monitoring bursting discs, Fieldbus interfacing and MES software
programmes.

I always have an affinity with brewing stories, I suppose because the
breweries are specialists in showing around groups of instrument
engineers and other enthusiasts, so there are not many of us who
cannot relate to a brewery situation.

I hope you find this issue of our weekly newsletter useful. In
addition to the new products, news and ideas featured here, there are
hundreds more on our website and dozens more being added daily, so do
take a look if you can. Alternatively, the full stories behind all
the summaries and headlines in this newsletter can be retrieved by
email alone: see details below.

Best wishes

OUR TOP NEW PRODUCT SELECTION
====================================================================

[1] LOWER COST PORTABLE THERMAL IMAGING CAMERA
(IMPAC Infrared, 26 Jul 2005)

The IVN 320-P Thermal Imager is an innovative hand held camera with a
performance normally found in models costing significantly more. It
should not be compared with the general low cost cameras that have
only a 160 x 120 pixel image and limited features, many of which have
been flooding the market. The IVN 320-P is a fully radiometric
camera, using advanced uncooled UFPA microbolometer technology to
give a full 320 x 240 pixel image. Temperatures from -20 to 500C
(optionally to 900C) can be measured and 124 images can be saved to
the internal memory.

[2] POPULAR OPTIONS ON GAS ANALYSER REDUCED IN PRICE
(Cambridge Sensotec, 01 Aug 2005)

Cambridge Sensotec and Oldham Gas Detection announce a new version of
their existing MX2100 multi-gas analyser. The new MX2100S is
distinguished by its red colour and is limited to the most popular
four gases: O2 - H2S - CO - Explosives. The customer can choose any
combination of these four gases and select between 2 and 4 gases, in
a new fixed price structure. The MX2100S fitted with all four gas
cells is GBP500.

[4] CUTTING COSTS IN ELECTROMAGNETIC FLOW MEASUREMENT
(ABB Automation Technologies (Instrumentation), 28 Jul 2005)

The cost of electromagnetic flow measurement has been cut by up to 20
percent with the launch of the FXL4000 flow meter from ABB. Designed
as a low cost solution for standard flow metering applications, the
COPA-XL features a light-weight sensor with integrated electronics.
It offers a cost-effective method of measuring flow in a wide range
of chemical and water industry applications, including drinking water
conditioning plants, dosing stations and sewage treatment plants.

[5] THE NEW ITEMP TEMPERATURE TRANSMITTER IS TOUGH!
(Endress+Hauser, 26 Jul 2005)

The new Endress+Hauser iTemp TMT142 HART temperature field
transmitter has been purpose-designed to perform where the job
demands, and that frequently means in tough, inhospitable conditions!
Industries such as chemical, petrochemical and mining pose their own
set of challenges. That's why the new iTemp TMT142 offers a robust
housing with IP65 protection and full ATEX approval. The TMT142 is
also universally programmable with HART protocol for resistance
thermometers, thermocouples and voltage transmitters.

[8] ELFAB FIRST TO OFFER DETECTION AS STANDARD
(Elfab, 29 Jul 2005)

Elfab, Europe's leading supplier of pressure-relief systems, has
added detection to each of its main product lines, giving end-users
immediate indication that a bursting device has operated. The Elfab
ATEX-approved, non-invasive and reusable Integral Flo-Tel sensor is
now fitted as standard to Opti-Gard, Safe-Gard, Posi-Gard, Vac-Gard,
Arma-Gard, Bursting Panels, and both flat and domed composite discs.
Elfab is the first manufacturer to offer this service as standard.
Unlike most alarm systems, which are activated by the flow created
after a bursting disc has operated, Integral Flo-Tel is installed on
the vent side of bursting discs and is activated by the operation of
the disc itself.
