Datum Electronics have launched a new range of instrumentation that can be fitted to most couplings and drive shafts to provide drive analysis and condition monitoring.

The Series 420 Instrumentation allows measurements of torque, torsional vibration, bending, shear and thrust.

The measurements can be tailored to a particular coupling to give an output of the specific characteristic under review.

By the analysis of localised stresses on the shaft it is possible to analyse the shape of the shaft in operation.

Sampling rates for the data can be synchronised with rotation of the coupling or other components in the driveline.

Applications for the system have varied from test rigs to motor sport and wind turbines providing invaluable data on the loads actually transmitted through the drive system.

The on shaft data is transmitted across an inductively coupled link and is presented in a simple serial format for direct analysis in the Datum Torque Log software or Excel.

Shaft installations can range from shafts of 15mm diameter at 20000 rpm up to shafts of 600mm diameter.

The on-shaft electronics are in-circuit programmable allowing the same unit to be configured for short-term trials or long-term condition monitoring.

The standard Series 420 outputs will interface to the Datum range of torque display and control instrumentation, this can provide conditioned outputs including 4-20mA, 0-10Vdc, RS232, RS485 and control relays.

Specialist OEM instrumentation is also available.
