The plant will employ the LP Oxo Process technology and will be designed to produce 171 KTA of 2-ethylhexanol (2EH) and 20 KTA of iso-butyraldehyde.
It will be built and operated by Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical Company Ltd at Zibo, Shandong Province, China.
Feedstock propylene will be available from the Sinopec Qilu ethylene plant expansion.

The 2-EH will be utilised primarily to produce DOP plasticiser either captively by Sinopec Qilu or in the regional market.
The unique process design will allow the flexibility to increase the iso-butyraldehyde off-take by narrowing the normal to iso-butyraldehyde ratio achieved in the low-pressure rhodium catalysed hydroformylation step that characterises the LP Oxo Process.
Construction on the facility is now underway, with Sinopec Qilu targeting start-up in the fourth quarter of 2004.
This will be the second plant Sinopec Qilu has built employing the LP Oxo Process, and will solidify its position as the largest oxo producer in China, with capability to produce a total of over 340 KTA of finished oxo products, including 2EH, butanol and iso-butyraldehyde.
David Tomlinson, President of Davy Process Technology (DPT), commented, "We are very pleased to conclude this further license with Sinopec Qilu enabling them to build what we believe is the largest single line 2EH plant in the world.
Sinopec has a very challenging project schedule and the DPT process design has been completed in record time to accommodate this".
Christopher Gann, vice president of Technology Licensing and Catalyst for Dow, added "there is no better testament to the quality and operating reliability of a technology, and its proven ability to deliver real economic benefits, than a second project with a current licensee.
We're delighted that the LP Oxo Process technology was chosen by Sinopec".
The LP Oxo Low Pressure Oxo Process is the world's leading process for the production of oxo alcohols from olefins.
It is the result of a collaboration between Davy Process Technology and Union Carbide Corporation that began in 1971.
To date, this process technology has been adopted in 22 licensed plants worldwide, accounting for most of the world's oxo alcohols capacity licensed during the last 25 years.
The LP Oxo technology has been awarded the Kirkpatrick Chemical Engineering Award as well as an R and D 100 Award for a new generation of catalysts.
Today, the process is licensed by Davy Process Technology in conjunction with The Dow Chemical Company, following its acquisition of Union Carbide in February 2001.
Dow has extensive commercial experience with this technology and utilises it in four manufacturing facilities worldwide.
While Davy provides plant design services and Dow, through Union Carbide, provides proprietary catalysts, the two companies jointly provide operator training, start-up assistance and on-going technical support to licensees.
