Kharg Petrochemical Company to use syngas and methanol technologies from Johnson Matthey Catalysts and Davy Process Technology on their 4430 MTPD combined reforming methanol production facility

The Kharg Petrochemical Company Limited of Iran has signed a contract with a consortium consisting of Namvaran Consulting Engineering Company of Iran and Iran Industrial Network Developments for the engineering, procurement and construction of a second methanol plant at Kharg Island, in the Islamic Republic of Iran The contract for this second methanol project covers the purchase of a process licence, detailed engineering, supply of equipment, construction and erection, and plant commissioning support

The facility will be built at Kharg Island, Iran, adjacent to the existing KPC methanol plant.

Johnson Matthey Catalysts will provide the process licence and catalysts for the plant.

Davy Process Technology (DPT) will provide basic engineering and technical assistance to aid in the delivery of the "state of the art" combined reforming technology with a design using DPT Steam Reforming technology and Johnson Matthey Auto Thermal Reforming and Methanol Synthesis technologies.

The plant will produce 4430 MTPD of methanol product from natural gas feedstock and carbon dioxide recovered from the Kharg MEG Plant (under construction).

The methanol production is destined for export.
