As the pharmaceutical industry moves inexorably towards100% verification, the problem of checking billions of unitary dose blister packs is a big one.

A blister without its tablet or capsule is not only a health risk to the patient but can be a liability issue for the drug supplier.

The answer is X-Line from 3DX-Ray.

X-line is an advanced x-ray imaging system that offers imaging, measurement and analysis in both 2 and 3D.

It can integrate with an existing QC, SPC or pass / fail system, making choices based on sophisticated decision-based criteria.

And it can do this for fraction of the cost of conventional X-ray systems due to its novel line-scan technology, which eliminates the need for expensive "area" detectors.

X-Line can easily image through the foil often used on blister packs and is sensitive enough to detect tablets even when they are moving past at 400 blisters a minute on a conveyor belt.

This gives it an advantage over many technologies, such as optical, microwave or RF, where the foil appears completely opaque.

X-Line is a fully automated, high speed, in-line inspection tool that is specifically suitable for inspection of smaller items on production lines.

It can resolve details to an accuracy around that of the width of a human hair (100 microns).

When used to inspect blister packs in their final packaging, the system is sensitive enough to check for the presence of the product instruction leaflet.
