In-line X-ray blister pack QC monitoring
3DX-Ray, a world leader in X-ray inspection systems, has developed its X-Line X-ray tablet detection QC system for use by pharmaceutical packaging companies
The system provides 100% real-time verification that each of billions of unitary dose blister packs is complete with the correct number of drug doses According to Nick Fox, Director at 3DX-Ray: "X-Line is an advanced X-ray imaging system for imaging, measurement and analysis in both 2D and 3D that integrates, simply, with an existing control system such as a pass / fail, SPC, or can be fully integrated into the plant SCADA system

Because of our patented X-ray line-scan technology, the blister checking system costs just a fraction of the amount it would have using conventional technology".
X-Line can image through the foil often used on blister packs and so detect tablets that are moving past at 400 blisters a minute.
This offers a significant advantage over many technologies, such as optical, microwave or RF, where the foil appears completely opaque.
X-Line is a fully automated, high speed, in-line inspection tool that was designed for the inspection of smaller items on production lines.
It can resolve details to an accuracy around that of the width of a human hair (100 microns).
When used to inspect blister packs in their final packaging, the system is also sensitive enough to check for the presence of the product instruction leaflet.
