easyFairs SOLIDS Processing in Bolton in May

An easyFairs UK product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Feb 14, 2005

A new event will be hosted on 10-11 May 2005: easyFairs SOLIDS comes to Bolton, UK, with the latest new products and technology in the processing, handling, storage and logistics of powder bulk solids

A new event will be hosted at the Reebok stadium in Bolton on 10-11 May 2005.

easyFairs SOLIDS: Processing: Handling: Storage will show the latest new products and technology in the processing, handling, storage and logistics of powder bulk solids.

The event forms part of a schedule of innovative events which take place across Europe.

"We are very excited about coming to Bolton this Spring," says Peter Heath, managing director of easyFairs UK .

"We see Bolton as the heart of the SOLIDS processing market so the event is easy for both visitors and exhibitors to get to.

We chose the Reebok stadium because of its quick motorway access and its free parking facilities.

There is also easy access to the venue for visitors when they arrive." Heath says that both visitors and exhibitors will find the show quite different from the events that they are used to.

"All exhibitors participate on a level playing field so there are no custom build stands.

This makes the products on show really stand out, and exhibitors are differentiated by the products they demonstrate, which helps visitors make informed choices about what they need." Jason Lewis, Manager of Britton Procol Valves, which is exhibiting at the show comments, "Britton Procol Valves is pleased to be attending the easyFairs SOLIDS show, as the industry has long needed a dedicated cost effective platform on which to promote new and existing products to customers.

We will be exhibiting our comprehensive range of valves as well as introducing a new low cost rotary valve." There is a free of charge learnShop programme during which SOLIDS innovators will explore the industry's hottest topics.

Mark Waters of Ajax Equipment who will be speaking at the event, comments: "Through the easyFairs SOLIDS learnShops we hope to promote the value of our industry by demonstrating and discussing solids handling issues that are relevant to efficient production." With over 30 years experience of designing solids handling equipment, Ajax Equipment is routinely called on to assist companies with problems ranging from how to improve the flow and discharge from storage hoppers to the smooth and reliable feeding of materials into a reaction vessel.

In one case a company was spending over GBP50,000 a year on cleaning out five storage hoppers to remove materials that had built up due to core flow or 'rat holing', these residues were degrading and were contaminating the final product.

The introduction of new discharge sections improved the hopper wall angles for a fraction of the ongoing cleaning cost; this solution eliminated the problem.

Ajax believes that a more thoughtful approach is needed for planning new solids handling equipment, many things have to be considered such as the characteristics and condition of the materials as well as any effects the processing may have on its physical properties.

"A common mistake is to assume that materials perform the same way in all conditions and that one powder acts much like another.

Overlooking the unique flow properties of the material, its segregation characteristics and performance under varying conditions which can generally lead to handling problems," notes Waters.

Peter Heath, managing director, easyFairs, comments, "The solids industry is ripe for an event which really delivers on value for both exhibitors and visitors." For more information about these innovative European events which have now come to the UK please visit the website.
