Smiling employees in engineering plants across the country are being encouraged to put their boss forward as Britain's most energetic, in a national search by energy supplier Powergen, part of E.ON

Smiling employees in engineering plants across the country are being encouraged to put their boss forward as Britain's most energetic, in a national search by leading energy supplier Powergen, part of E.ON.

The Powergen 'Britain's Most Energetic Boss 2006' competition is looking for bosses with positive energy, whose enthusiasm and commitment to their employees or local community makes going to work fun and rewarding.

The search aims to reward the hard work and dedication of the bosses 4.3 million small businesses in the UK.

Employees who nominate their boss at www.energeticboss.co.uk between 9 October and 3 November 2006 could win a case of champagne for themselves and a well deserved safari holiday to Kenya for their boss.

Five finalists will also win a luxury weekend theatre break, with their nominating employee also getting a case of champagne.

Neil Gould, the Powergen small and medium-sized business manager, said: "We want to shine the spotlight on Britain's unsung small business bosses.

All too often, they work incredibly hard to make their business a positive, thriving place to work, but don't get the recognition they deserve.

Our search for Britain's Most Energetic Boss gives employees a chance to really celebrate their boss's success, and we'd love as many engineering plants as possible to enter".

Ken 'The Cod' MacKenzie, owner of Allways Fryday fish and chip shop in Poole, was declared the Powergen inaugural 'Most Energetic Boss' in 2004.

Ken was nominated by his staff, who he regularly surprises with days off abroad.

He is also well known for scouring the world looking for the best fish for his customers to try, and opens his house every year to raise money for a local children's charity.

Ken said: "It was fantastic to win the title and it also gave a real boost to my business.

I feel it's really important to be enthusiastic and positive about doing the job you do - you can't you expect your employees and customers to feel positive about your business if you don't.

Winning the title was a great way of confirming it pays to love what you do!".

Anyone working in a company of less than 250 workers can nominate their boss via www.energeticboss.co.uk, where there is also a downloadable postal version of the entry form.

Finalists will be judged by a panel of business experts, with the overall winners announced this December.
