The Manufacturing Chemist magazine, December/January issue, has the following report on an auction of new pharma equipment on behalf of Pfizer, by Rabin Worldwide.

Pfizer has ceased operations at its facility in Augusta, Georgia.

All equipment from the factory is currently being liquidated and will be sold at a public auction starting in late January 2007.

Pfizer has spent around US$85.7m in capital improvements over the past five years at the plant.

In the last year alone, new equipment and capital improvement costs for the plant were around US$25-50m.

The facility has complete API production equipment, with a reactor capacity of 29,000 gallons.

Much of the equipment in the plant is brand new and was never turned on or certified.

The liquidation will continue until the end of the year.

The subsequent auction, conducted by San Francisco auction firm Rabin Worldwide (www.rabin.com), will be held on site in Georgia, and on-line.

A representative listing of the equipment involved is as follows.

Rosenmund filter dryers.

Centrifuges (316SS and Hastelloy).

Pin and Jet mill systems.

Fluid bed drying department.

Double cone vacuum blenders.

Tote bins, blenders and wash system.

HIBAC Isolation departments.

Reactors and charging support vessels.

Spare reactor vessels, agitators and drives.

Stainless tanks (6,000 to 20,000 gallons).

Carbon steel tanks (6,000 to 30,000 gallons).

Thermal oxidizing platform.

Solvent recovery columns.

Cyanide destruct system.

Fume scrubber and process column.

High pressure and centrifugal pumps (over 150).

Valves, metering and controls.

Dust collectors and blowers.

Boiler and emergency generator.

Motor control centers / PLC controllers.

Facility monitoring systems and devices.

Additional process equipment and furnishings.
