Elcometer now testing concrete for salt
From their experience in the coatings industry, where testing for salt on steel structures is essential before applying a coating, Elcometer have now developed a test kit for use on concrete
From their extensive experience in the coatings industry, where testing for salt on steel structures is essential before applying a coating, Elcometer are pleased to announce that they have now taken this knowledge and developed a test kit for use with coatings on concrete.
As concrete is porous, the presence of soluble salts on, or in the surface, prior to coating will lead to premature breakdown of both the coating and the concrete structure.
Testing for chloride salts has always been necessary, but testing for sulphates and nitrates is also important.
Supplied in a portable carry case, the Elcometer 134CSN (chloride, sulphates, nitrates) Test Kit has been designed to test for chlorides, sulphates and nitrates in minutes.
Designed specifically for ease of use in the field, all the components are pre-measured and pre-dosed for complete accuracy and without the need for additional laboratory work.
The kit uses a titration tube for chlorides, a colorimeter for sulphates and test strips for nitrates.
The calibration is directly in parts per million (ppm) so there is no need for complicated conversion of readings as each test is designed to be on a ratio of 1:1.
Each Elcometer 134CSN kit is supplied with 5 tests for each ion and refill kits are available.
The Elcometer range of concrete inspection equipment also includes concrete covermeters, rebound hammers, rebar locators, adhesion and climatic condition testing instruments.
