MSR Annubars on a Czech Nuclear Power
Plant
The use of Rosemount Annubar flow elements to monitor Main Steam Return Lines at Temelin Nuclear Power Station has resulted in on-going operational savings, and improved reliability
The use of Rosemount flow elements to monitor high pressure steam lines has resulted in on-going operational savings: Temelin Nuclear Power Station, located in the Czech Republic, installed several Rosemount Main Steam Return Line (MSR) Annubars on high pressure steam flow at critical monitoring points The power station chose to install the MSR Annubar units, from Emerson Process Management, because of the rugged application conditions, simple installation procedure, and because of the low permanent pressure loss created by the Annubar sensor

By utilising MSR Annubars, on-going cost savings were achieved.
The MSR Annubar is an averaging pitot tube, used in applications where conditions exceed the structural limits of standard Annubar sensors.
Specifically, the combination of high temperature, high pressure, and high flow rates require the additional strength of the MSR Annubar.
The Temelin plant chose MSR units manufactured in Incoloy 800HT, which is resistant to the corrosive effects of high pressure steam.
Annubar flow sensors create minimal blockage in the pipe, which reduces permanent pressure loss.
This was a key factor in the selection of Rosemount Annubar technology over other DP Flow products, such as the Venturi technology previously used.
On-going operational costs are reduced because of the energy savings resulting.
The power station required the measurements to be made in existing lines: the MSR Annubar provides a simple, low-cost installation procedure.
The unit is installed by drilling two holes in the pipe, welding on the mounting hardware and inserting the Annubar through the pipe.
Not only did this produce savings in installation time and labour, the unit was delivered with all of the mounting hardware required - no special flanges or pipe cutting was required.
The MSR Annubars were installed two years ago on critical measurement points.
Due to the importance of the measurement and the rugged application conditions, the units have been inspected for corrosion every 6 months.
To date, there has been no evidence of corrosion and the measurements have remained within specification. Request a free brochure from Emerson Process Management ...
