DeltaV Safety System as part of PlantWeb SIS
The DeltaV safety system is a key component of the new PlantWeb Smart SIS safety management architecture: innovations simplify customer implementation and operation of safer process plants to IEC61511
Emerson launches the DeltaV safety system as a key component of the new PlantWeb Smart SIS safety management architecture.
DeltaV Safety System innovations simplify customer implementation and operation of safer process plants in accordance with IEC61511.
Emerson Process Management announces the new DeltaV Safety System, the heart of the new Emerson PlantWeb Smart SIS safety management architecture.
Comprised of sixteen-channel modular logic solvers, the safety system can be deployed in distributed fashion to perform programmable electronic system functions for virtually any safety need.
Building on the proven technologies of PlantWeb digital process automation architecture, the new DeltaV Safety System integrates with intelligent safety-certified sensors and final control elements to build the unique Emerson PlantWeb Smart SIS safety management solution.
The Safety System is rated for SIL 1-3 safety applications, in compliance with the stringent international standard IEC61508 for safety functionality, and has been designed to integrate all the tools to fulfil the customer design requirements of the IEC61511.
To help simplify process manufacturers compliance efforts with IEC 61511, the safety system delivers version control and audit trail (VCAT) within the DeltaV Safety System software and AMS Intelligent Device Manager.
Changes to the safety system are recorded, including date, time, author or respective alarm level.
Plant Messenger will direct the events with corrective actions to the relevant department per e-Mail, text message SMS or pager.
Plantwide Event Historian will automatically document all the events.
The DeltaV Safety System uses the diagnostics within field devices to increase the availability of the overall PlantWeb Smart SIS safety management solution.
Scheduled partial-stroking of final control elements will improve the safety level, reduce the number of risky personnel trips into the field, and increase the mandatory proof test interval.
The new, scaleable safety system makes the separation of the Safety Instrumented System functions from mainstream Basic Process Control System (BPCS) functions absolutely secure per the IEC 61508 standard.
Each modular self-contained safety system unit has sixteen configurable I/O channels and can be located by the customer where needed to fit the size and distribution of all safety applications.
"The DeltaV Safety System provides easy implementation with its exclusive palette of certified smart function blocks," stated Duncan Schleiss, vice president of marketing with Emerson.
"These smart functions enable users to employ simple drag-and-drop techniques to accomplish tasks that require pages of coding in traditional safety systems".
"All of the advances like plug-and-play hardware, drag-and-drop, and explorer-based software that have made the industry-leading DeltaV digital automation system easier are available in the DeltaV Safety System software," continued Schleiss.
"Configuration is implemented with direct deployment of tools such as cause-and-effect matrices in the Safety System, eliminating traditional logic diagrams and ladder logic.
SIF SIL levels are maintained with reduced field testing by using powerful certified function blocks in DeltaV Control Studio".
Engineered with the help of trained Emerson safety professionals, PlantWeb Smart SIS safety management solutions, including the new DeltaV Safety System, enable customers to implement safer facilities, improve availability, lower life-cycle costs, and ease regulatory compliance.
