Performance of Rosemount 3051S pressure transmitters enables government guidelines to be achieved with reduced calibration frequency on fiscal measurement application for Statoil

Performance of 3051S pressure transmitters enables government guidelines to be achieved with reduced calibration frequency on fiscal measurement application.

After extensive testing, Emerson Process Management has supplied 36 Rosemount 3051S pressure transmitters for use on a fiscal metering application at the Statoil Oygarden gas terminal.

The terminal is located just outside Bergen in Norway.

Benefits that have been experienced are higher accuracy and reduced calibration frequencies, leading to savings in calibration costs of almost USD1000 per transmitter.

The Statoil application required transmitters that could meet the government performance requirements of 0.1 per cent accuracy while operating at a high and variable static pressure.

Core components of Emerson PlantWeb digital plant architecture, the Rosemount transmitters, with a dp range of 0 - 500 mbar, were calibrated at 160 Bar static pressure; a 5 point rising and 5 point falling calibration check was performed.

The same check was performed at 200 bar static pressure and 120 bar, with no re-calibration carried out.

The maximum error seen was +/- 0.05% of span, well within government guidelines.

"Testing verified that the 3051S transmitters exceeded our performance requirements," said Bjorn Ullebust of Statoil.

"In addition, we have been able to make use of the HART digital communications abilities to perform diagnostic checks on the transmitters from a remote location.

This has enabled us to move from scheduled to condition-based maintenance, based on transmitter condition.

Thanks to the high accuracy and remote-monitored diagnostics of the 3051S transmitter, we have been able to extend our calibration intervals, saving us USD34,000 per year".

"We were pleased that these transmitters were able to meet the Statoil performance requirements," said Svein Bakken, the Emerson Sales Manager.

"Had they not been able to find a solution, Statoil may have had to perform a costly re-design of their metering skid.

Not only have they been able to save money on the re-design, but the high accuracy and the diagnostic capabilities of the 3051S enables them to save money on calibration costs, year on year".

The Rosemount 3051S pressure transmitter powers PlantWeb by capturing and delivering instrument diagnostics data.

Used with the AMS Suite: Intelligent Device Manager software, the 3051S provides customers with an accurate picture of instrument health and performance.
