Emerson announces a new family of fiscal oil flowmetering systems with the Daniel Series 3800 liquid ultrasonic meter, a four chord meter with non-wetted, intrinsically safe transducers

Emerson Process Management announces a new family of smart Daniel Series 3800 liquid ultrasonic meters which is the first in the industry to use digital intelligence to deliver diagnostics that help users detect and troubleshoot maintenance problems.

Beginning with the Daniel Model 3804 liquid ultrasonic meter, the new smart family is designed for use in custody transfer, allocation measurement, and check metering applications in areas such as offshore platforms, crude and refined product pipelines, and marketing terminals.

Oil and gas are precious commodities.

The accurate and reliable measurement of oil and gas is critical for fiscal accounting and taxation purposes.

This fiscal metering is done by high precision flow meters that measure fluids throughout the value chain from wellheads through crude refinement to marketing terminals.

Daniel flow meters from Emerson are leaders in high performance oil and gas fiscal metering, and the company is extending its technology and expertise into liquid ultrasonic metering.

Based on customer research and extensive field trials, the diagnostics in the Daniel Model 3804 liquid ultrasonic meter combine with the unique Daniel capability of internet monitoring to give users the benefit of remotely observing flow profiles, transducer status, and more, to help in detecting and troubleshooting any erroneous measurements.

"The new Daniel ultrasonic meter family extends our digital field intelligence initiatives to today's high growth liquid ultrasonic fiscal metering applications," commented John Berra, President of Emerson Process Management.

The first meter in the new series from Emerson is the Daniel Model 3804 ultrasonic meter which accurately measures a wide range of fluids including crude oil, distillate fuels, and petrochemicals.

These fluids are measured with +/- 0.15% accuracy over a 10:1 flow range.

The meters feature state-of-the-art transducer design from Emerson, that includes a glass matching layer for superior acoustic coupling and waveform detection, enabling more exact measurements.

The Daniel Model 3804 liquid ultrasonic meter utilises transit time-based measurement along four chords.

The four pairs of integrally mounted transducers allow the meter to maintain high accuracy over widely varying pipeline conditions, including changes in fluids.

The meter is designed for reliable measurement and minimal maintenance.

The non-wetted, intrinsically safe transducers can be replaced during operation in a matter of minutes, even in hazardous environments, without the need to empty or depressurise the meter.

To help users keep inventory costs low, the entire Series 3800 product line - ranging from 4 to 12 inch line sizes in 150 to 900 ANSI classes - uses the same components.

Additionally, this Daniel meter is approved by UL / cUL and ATEX for use in hazardous areas.

With the Daniel Customer Ultrasonic Interface (CUI), a Windows based software application, users will find it extremely easy to configure the meter, view flow profiles, record log files, trend data, and troubleshoot installation problems with advanced diagnostic data.

The meter has Ethernet compatibility, which allows multiple users to connect remotely to the meter to obtain real-time data without the need to go into the field.

In a matter of minutes, users can download a year's worth of archive logs stored in the meter.

Additionally, users will save time sorting through diagnostic data with the Daniel CUI automated reporting functionality.

This new meter family adds to the existing Emerson product lines of Coriolis flow meters, flow control instruments, flow computers, and transmitters.

It also compliments the Daniel liquid products portfolio of provers, valves, presets, and liquid turbine meters.

The family adds to the Emerson technology leadership in providing superior custody transfer products, systems, and services to the oil and gas fiscal flow measurement market.
