StatoilHydro wins HART plant of the year
award

Emerson Technology allows Fieldvue DVC6000 digital valve controllers to communicate using HART over a Profibus network to AMS Suite software, delivering predictive maintenance diagnostics

The HART Communication Foundation has announced that StatoilHydro has won the 2007 HART Plant of the Year award for its project at the Ormen Lange gas field in Norway The AMS Suite and field devices from Emerson Process Management were identified as key enablers for the effective use of predictive diagnostics by StatoilHydro for the Ormen Lange Project, including the subsea installations, onshore terminal and the world's longest sub sea gas pipeline project

The prestigious award from the HART Communication Foundation, recognises the innovative StatoilHydro use of HART Communication with a Profibus DP network to deliver diagnostics to plant personnel.

The StatoilHydro commitment to predictive diagnostics, along with the number and the extensive range of various HART instruments and valves from multiple vendors on the project, made them an ideal recipient for the recognition.

At this difficult-to-access North Sea location, on-line diagnostics from more than 350 continuously monitored valves supply critical information to operations, maintenance and reliability personnel, as well as to experts around the world.

The valves are equipped with Emerson Fieldvue DVC6000 digital valve controllers.

Through AMS Device Manager with the ValveLink Snap-on application, a component of the PlantWeb digital plant architecture, online diagnostics warn of pending valve problems, save troubleshooting time, and minimise unnecessary personnel trips into potentially hazardous areas to check status.

AMS Device Manager provides an interface that allows online communication with HART field devices over a Profibus DPV1 network, an essential capability for leveraging and maximising the StatoilHydro investment in HART-enabled devices.

The Ormen Lange gas field is Norway's largest gas field and is situated in the Northern sector of the Norwegian Sea.

It is being operated during the development phase by StatoilHydro.

Norske Shell will take over full operation of the facility at the end of 2007.

"We are delighted that our user has won this prestigious award and achieved recognition for their technical innovation," said Craig Llewellyn, president of the Emerson Asset Optimisation division.

"StatoilHydro worked creatively with Emerson to execute their vision for predictive maintenance in an open architecture to maximise asset availability and performance".

The Plant of the Year Award is given annually by the HART Communication Foundation to recognise people, companies and sites that are using the full capabilities of HART technology to achieve improved operations, lower costs and increased availability.

The HART Communication Foundation is an independent organisation providing a standard for smart process instrumentation and worldwide support for the application of HART technology.

The Emerson AMS Suite is an integrated family of diagnostic software applications for predictive maintenance, performance monitoring and economic optimisation.

AMS Suite enables companies to dramatically improve plant availability, throughput and product quality while reducing operations, maintenance and utility costs.

Emerson complements AMS Suite with PlantWeb services to ensure successful implementation of the applications and to maximise the value delivered to manufacturers. Request a free brochure from Emerson Process Management ...
