The ET Marine compact SeaNox analyser - which measures oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emitted from a ship's stack - has just been granted the prestigious Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Approval Certificate The SeaNox monitor is fully compliant with new International Maritime Organisation MARPOL Annex VI legislation which stipulates that analysers should be of the chemiluminescent type, with a nitrogen dioxide (NO2) converter

Annex VI of MARPOL 73/78 came into force on 19 May 2005 and states that all ships over 400 tonnes or with an engine output exceeding 130kw should monitor NOx emissions.

Gloucestershire-based ET Marine was set up in April 2005 specifically to offer the maritime community a ruggedised analyser with a long track record in reliability and ease of use.

ET Marine has a sister company Enviro Technology Services, also based in Gloucestershire, with more than 20 years experience of land-based air quality monitoring: they are an advisor to central government and local authorities.

Unlike its competitors, ET Marine not only has a network of fully trained agents and service centres worldwide, it also offers ship owners and fleet operators a software package to enable the continuous monitoring of emissions anywhere in the world.

Announcing the ET Marine DNV certification, Sales Director Duncan Mounsor said: "We're delighted to get this prestigious endorsement for the SeaNox analyser: ET Marine is one of only two companies worldwide that can offer an emissions monitor that is fully compliant with Annex VI of MARPOL 73/78".

Duncan added: "Enviro Technology Services has held DNV certification for an Opsis NOx monitor since January 1998, but this is the first time that the company has had endorsement for its own product".

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ADDED ON 5 NOVEMBER 2005.

ET Marine would like to clarify its position regarding Det Norske Veritas (DNV) certification for its SeaNox compact Nox gas analyser.

The DNV Type Approval Certificate Number A-9695 has been issued for the following parameters: temperature, humidity, vibration, EMC and enclosure (probe and cabinet).

Compliance with the NOx technical code, as stipulated in Annex VI of MARPOL 73/78, has not been evaluated.

ET Marine is currently in discussion with DNV concerning the specific requirements related to type approval for compliance with the NOx technical code.
