Latest air quality monitoring methods described
As part of a mission to become the leading authority on air quality monitoring and emissions, Enviro Technology Services will be holding a number of workshops at the MCERTS Conference on October 12-13
The site provides almost real-time air quality and meteorological data from five automatic and continuous monitoring stations located within the city, all maintained and serviced by Enviro Technology.
The Swansea Air Quality monitoring ensures long term goals and targets to reduce air pollution are being met.
The website complements the existing upload of numeric data from the monitoring equipments by informing users how good, or bad, the air quality around them is - by way of a data display that uses the DEFRA index banding scale.
Enviro Technology provide the local authority with two OPSIS DOAS stations, each measuring levels of NO, O2, SO2, NO2 and Benzene.
The Swansea OPSIS Meteorological monitoring station also uploads hourly data to the web site and has been operational since August 2002, measuring wind speed and wind direction, global radiation, global reflected radiation, pressure, UV-A and UV-B and air temperature.
Says Stephen Hoskin, the Enviro Technology AQMS Sales Manager: "Due to the National air quality monitoring strategy deeming parts of the Lower Swansea valley a 'hot spot', we have been working very closely with the council to develop a strategic and functional method of data collection".
Adds Phil Govier, Swansea CC Environmental Management Systems Development Officer: "The Enviro Technology AQ web concept enabled us to create an area on our existing website that portrays up-to-the-minute AQ data for internal and external use.
The initial vision was to develop our air quality web presence internally, but it soon became evident that this process would entail substantial development time.
As the ET airqualitydata.com concept had already been developed, we took the view that commissioning bespoke enhancements to the ET basic provision would provide us with a more cost effective way forward".
