Industry concern for a safe working
environment

The annual EnSolv roadshow, a seminar discussing metal and plastics degreasing, has documented the most common needs of manufacturers: a safe working environment

Figures compiled between 2001-2005 have revealed the priority of companies around the UK: a safe working environment The annual EnSolv roadshow, a seminar discussing metal and plastics degreasing, which visits Cities to discuss legislation, documented the most common needs of manufacturers of finished and semi-finished products * 90% of delegates surveyed listed "A Safe Working Environment" as their most essential objective

* 78% considered it vital to reduce levels of chemical use and with it create less emissions to atmosphere.

* 70% demanded reliability in the quality of products they used in their cleaning processes.

* 64% said regard for the environment was an issue.

Most delegates attending the roadshow were users of Trichloroethylene (Trike), a known carcinogen, and were searching for a suitable alternative.

When asked if existing product suppliers had offered technical support to help them understand and meet legislation needs, 70% said they had infrequent contact fom their supplier.

Though it will always be a factor in assessment only 30% indicated price as their top five priority with 70% indicating performance and real value for money was more essential.

Asked to design their ideal solvent for vapour degreasing the following characteristics were highlighted: low toxicity; non flammable; high solvency power; mid-boiling point; helpful in reducing consumption and emissions; not classified as a carcinogen; no measurable residue; compatible with light alloys; non ozone depleting; low global warming potential; capable of use in existing equipment.

A comparison of each of these needs confirmed EnSolv as fully meeting these criteria.
