Strategic advice about energy market volatility

A The Energy Event product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Jul 11, 2008

Visitors to The Energy Event will have an exclusive opportunity to hear about the most advanced strategies for protecting their businesses from energy market volatility, in an EIC seminar

The Energy Event, sponsored by Total Gas and Power, takes place at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham on 10th-11th September 2008.

Energy industry experts from EIC, a key sponsor and advocate of the event, will be passing on a wealth of information and guidance both during daily seminars and at the EIC stand.

During the seminars, Dr Craig Lowrey, Head of Energy Markets at EIC will address the key issues affecting global energy prices and highlight the implications of Government policy on UK businesses.

With energy markets seeing wholesale prices soar to record levels, resulting in increased costs for many business customers, Dr Lowrey, a frequent contributor on energy issues across BBC television and radio, will also examine how the situation is being compounded by an increase in the non-wholesale element of bills through new transmission and distribution charges.

"Energy is very much a global issue so we're going to be looking at the UK's presence on the global energy stage and the implications for end users in terms of price determination in the years ahead" explains Dr Lowrey: "The industry is facing a whole new set of challenges and buyers need to understand that what has worked in the past won't automatically work in the future.

But if businesses are armed with the right information, they will be able to better understand the implications of market developments and can work on how to minimise the impact of soaring energy prices - it's these issues we'll be focusing on at The Energy Event".

Alastair Harris, Head of Risk Management and Ray Attridge, Head of Portfolio Management at EIC will also be presenting at the seminars on each day of the event, providing an overview of how EIC can control market exposure through energy price risk management.

The EIC seminar on Energy Purchasing and Market Fundamentals will take place on Wednesday 10 September and Thursday 11 September, 13.00 - 14.30 in the Kirkmichael Suite at The National Motorcycle Museum.

EIC will be exhibiting at stand 238.

The EIC seminar is part of the conference and seminar programme at The Energy Event which is the UK's only annual exhibition and conference to focus solely on energy procurement, management and efficiency, including water efficiency.

Also hosting conferences and seminars this year will be ESTA (Energy Services and Technology Association), MEUC (Major Energy Users Council), CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Service Engineers), BCAS (British Compressed Air Society) and Envirowise.

Headlining the conference programme will be the Energy Insight Conference which is aimed at directors and senior management and will primarily focus on energy procurement.

Those interested in attending are advised to register early, as, while there is no cost to attend, places are limited and much sought after.

Total Gas and Power is the official sponsor for this year's event with other sponsors including EDF Energy, Encore International, Llumarlite, Shell Gas Direct and The Utilities Exchange.

The event this year will once again be carbon neutral with Carbon Clear acting as the event's carbon offsetting partner.
