System Life Planning helps users ensure that process automation systems will meet current and future business needs: Jim Houston is System Life Planning Manager for the UK and Ireland

Emerson Process Management, a leading global supplier of process automation systems and services, announces the appointment of Jim Houston as System Life Planning Manager for the UK and Ireland "Jim's appointment is important for us and for our customers," said Travis Hesketh, the UK and Ireland Systems Sales Director for Emerson

"All of our System Life Planning studies to date have provided significant benefit.

Expanding on this success, Jim will manage system life programmes in the UK and Ireland, working with our project managers and systems engineers to implement the studies and deliver comprehensive system life plans." The System Life Planning process begins with defining the customer current and future business objectives, and proceeds to match control system functionality with the objectives.

Current business objectives may include availability, production and quality requirements as well as conversion costs.

Future business expectations may call for process changes, expansion plans, and operations performance improvement.

The System Life Plan includes a multi-year maintenance, performance, and expansion plan for control systems.

Working with the customer operations and engineering personnel, Emerson experts produce the plan by identifying system hardware, software, and services that will help the user meet short and long term business and process control needs.

"Many benefits result from a System Life Planning study," said Jim Houston.

"Support issues and future maintenance costs are identified by assessing the life-cycle status of system components.

The System Life Plan helps users keep pace with technology advances, enabling increased functionality and performance as well as extending control system life.

In addition, the study assists users with planning and justification for future migration investments to support ever changing business direction and information needs.".
