Manufacturing Excellence conference on Teesside

An Emerson Process Management - UK/Ireland product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Mar 31, 2003

"Manufacturing Excellence through Automation and Asset Management" for its third year will be held over three days at the end of April 2003, in a new venue on Teesside

Entitled "Manufacturing Excellence through Automation and Asset Management", the event will include the two day Manufacturing Excellence Conference, a seven stream series of presentations related to asset management and process industry automation and control.

Also included will be several full day training sessions, and an exhibition of relevant products.

The Manufacturing Excellence Forum will discuss current developments that allow businesses to deliver better results, particularly within the oil and gas, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

The presentations will be split into seven streams, covering: oil and gas; pharmaceutical, biotech, fine chemicals and batch; operational excellence; energy efficiency; and safety.

Delegates will be able to organise their programme to suit individual interests.

In 2002 the forum attracted over 300 people, and a major feature was the interaction between different delegates and their experiences.

A further day during the week will be devoted to in-depth specific training sessions on regulatory compliance, asset management, process automation and control, for operators, engineers or plant managers.

One of the training courses will include a full review by Aker Kvaerner on the management approach needed to the different phases in the life of a process plant, described as "the cradle to grave life cycle".

The exhibition will showcase relevant products, technology and practices, and include demonstrations by over 20 key industry suppliers.

This year the five sponsors of the event are Aker Kvaerner, Huntsman International, Emerson Process Management, Action Energy and the ISA.

Aker Kvaerner is a provider of services, technology and products to the international oil and gas and pharmaceutical industries.

Aker Kvaerner has three business divisions within Europe, operating from several offices.

The executive sponsor of the manufacturing excellence event is based on Teesside within the Stockton offices of Aker Kvaerner E and C (Engineering and Contracting).

Aker Kvaerner E and C provide process technology, design, engineering, project management, procurement and construction services to the world's process industries.

Huntsman International have established a major presence in the North East of England since buying the Teesside based Petrochemicals, Polyurethanes and Tioxide businesses of ICI in 1999.

Huntsman will be contributing their experience and knowledge of operating and maintaining large process plants to several of the lectures.

Emerson Process Management are a major supplier of instrumentation and advanced control systems for the process industries: their PlantWeb digital plant architecture enables the use of field intelligence to monitor both process and asset performance to improve plant operations and profitability.

Action Energy is sponsoring the series of lectures relating to Energy Efficiency in a specific stream devoted to monitoring and improving energy use.

The ISA, the Instrumentation, Systems and Automation society, England Section, will be sponsoring a lecture stream that will cover recently modified plant safety legislation and approvals as well as food industry requirements.

The organisers of the event have selected papers particularly involving case studies illustrating savings and successful solutions in the process industry.

The stream titles include Pharmaceuticals and Batch Chemicals (including regulatory compliance); Energy Efficiency; Alliances and Partnering for Profitability; Connecting to Corporate IT; Operational Excellence, including Revamping and De-bottlenecking; Safety and Instrumentation (including ATEX and IEC 61508); Oil and Gas, Chemicals and Polymers.

The event will take place at The Tall Trees Hotel in Yarm from 30 April to 1 May 2003.
