Associated training seminars provide in depth training on modern digital automation systems, fieldbus communication techniques, asset management and maintenance planning Teesside is at the forefront of using such modern technology, allowing existing plants to continue to enhance productivity, and compete against world-wide competition using the best modern ideas in the industry

Dr Ashok Kumar, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, and a member of the Select Committee for Trade and Industry, will deliver one of the keynote speeches at the conference.

This is entitled "The Need to Invest and Develop for the Long Term Future of Manufacturing Industry", and will be particularly associated with the chemical processing industries discussed at the conference.

Dr Kumar will introduce other presenters, both local and International, to show what can be achieved.

Using the right technology can harness and develop the expertise available, in existing plant, personnel and systems, liberating the "Hidden plant" within such existing facilities, which inevitably attracts investment and creates more job opportunities.

Presenters from Huntsman European Petrochemicals in particular will discuss how their use of Advanced Control Systems and strategies have improved their Teesside plant performance.

Huntsman International is one of the sponsors of Manufacturing Excellence, and will also provide speakers from their Dutch operations: one of the major topics will discuss alliances between Huntsman and such automation suppliers as Emerson Process Management, another sponsor of the event.

Emerson will bring several experts in the field of process automation concept and design from the USA, and from their European operations, and other presenters will include users of these technologies such as INEOS Chlor and Novo Nordisk from Denmark.

Aker Kvaerner are also a sponsor of the Manufacturing Excellence event, and their expertise is widely used in the development and management of process plant through different phases in the life cycle, in particular to meet the changing customer demands experienced in manufacturing pharmaceuticals and batch chemicals.

Discussions on Safety and Instrumentation will include aspects relating to North Sea operations, with contributions discussing installation of modern instrumentation and control systems by such companies as Associated Octel, MTL and ICS Triplex: this aspect of the conference is sponsored by the Instrumentation Systems and Automation society (ISA).

Energy efficiency is a major theme running alongside all business activities today: one of the major lecture streams within Manufacturing Excellence is devoted to experience and modern approaches to achieving energy efficiency, and ideas available to achieve this.

Action Energy are sponsoring this part of the conference, and present their approach, with experience from Solutia UK, Shell Global Solutions, and Huntsman.

Manufacturing Excellence will be a major event for all involved in the management, development and control of process plant.

Scheduled for three days, April 29th to May 1st, it provides a significant learning experience relevant to many Teesside industries.
