The Manufacturing Excellence Conference in June this year will present accounts of automation and asset management technology applications in some of the best known names in the process industry

Speakers have been confirmed for the Manufacturing Excellence Conference in June this year, presenting accounts of their experience in applying automation and asset management technology in some of the best known names in the process industry The speakers will include Mervyn Currie of BP Exploration, on "Lessons Learned from use of LOPA and Risk Graphs to Determine Integrity Levels" - two methods that have been used by BP to determine SIL levels, to comply with IEC61508 and 61511 requirements

Harvey Dearden of Great Lakes (UK) Ltd will ask "Who's Afraid of IEC 61508" and conclude that a relatively simple, straightforward approach is viable for many process industry applications.

Forward looking presentations entitled "The User's View on the Benefits of Instrumentation Diagnostics - What Should the Vendors Develop Next" will come from Rob Lewis of BP Amoco Chemicals Ltd, and "A User's View of the Next Generation Control System" from Euan Simpson of BP Chemicals International.

From Brunner Mond, Phil Stoor will outline his experiences, after completing a successful fieldbus project, installing Emerson's DeltaV with FF to update the control system on their Soda Ash plant.

Installation of a Rosemount Raman spectroscopic analyser online on another continuous process, Paraxylene production, will be described by Stephen Gill of Huntsman Petrochemicals.

The system has made a substantial impact on the reliability of the plant, and is totally NOT "a fiddly gadget".

Two further examples of the 50 presentations available in five parallel streams across the two days of the main conference are from Justin Lowe of PA Consulting Group, who will discuss "Cyber Attack of Control Systems - Managing the Security Risk", and Desmond Wright of Tencel describes "The Integration of reliability Based Maintenance" giving KPIs that measure the success of their predictive maintenance programme, reviewing some case studies.

Manufacturing Excellence is from June 15-17 at the Forest of Arden Hotel, 5 miles from Birmingham International Airport, and is sponsored by Emerson Process Management, Aker Kvaerner, The IEE, BASF and Huntsman.
