An Exele product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Jan 31, 2006

TopView process alarm and notification software, working with PI and OPC, adds Tag Groups and Output Points - allowing a quick response to any abnormal condition

This powerful and flexible alarming and notification tool can monitor thousands of points (tags) from one or more PI or OPC Servers.

Through multiple notification options, it allows quick response to any abnormal condition.

And since TopView communicates with any PI or OPC-DA data source, it can monitor points from virtually any control system, PLC or data historian.

Each TopView Window can display and monitor up to 2500 points for abnormal value, timestamp and status conditions.

It can also recognise complex alarm conditions involving multiple tags and conditions.

The user can configure alarm delays and re-sending of persistent alarms.

When running as a Windows Service, TopView allows users to log-off a machine without interruption of monitoring and notification.

TopView can deliver alarm messages via e-mail, alphanumeric pagers and cellular phones.

Voice annunciation and text-to-speech technology allow it to deliver audible alarm messages over computer speakers or over the phone for remote acknowledgement.

Alarm conditions can even launch other applications to enable custom response to abnormal events.

Tag Groups and Output Points Overview.

Tag Groups allow you to organize your tags and simplify notification.

Once Tag Groups are created, the TopView Window and Remote Viewer will display the group names for you to select when viewing tag and alarm information.

In addition, each Tag Group has a default notification recipient which can be inherited by tags contained in the Tag Group.

Output Points are tags on the Server that can receive values from TopView.

Output Points provide feedback from TopView to the PI/OPC Server.

There are two types of Output Point available in TopView.

1 Event points receive an output value (or values) when an event occurs in the TopView Window: possible events include - Tag/Row enters alarm - Tag/Row returns to normal - Alarm acknowledged.

2 Health points continuously receive an output value while the health of the monitored item is good.

The TopView heartbeat signal is an example of a Health Output Point.
