John Gerry, of ExperTune, has received the Douglas H Annin Award at the ISA 2003 conference "in recognition of the contributions to the development of a PID engine and its commercial applications"

John Gerry, founder and president of Wisconsin-based ExperTune, has received the Douglas H Annin Award at the ISA 2003 conference "in recognition of the contributions to the development of a PID tuning engine and its commercial applications" For the past 17 years, John has been guiding the ExperTune development of control loop optimisation tools

The company software is installed in more than 6,000 plants worldwide.

The Douglas H Annin Award, established in 1985, recognises outstanding achievement in the design or development of components of an automatic control system from the input measurement through the final control element.

The Award is made annually by the ISA in honor of Douglas H Annin, a pioneer in modern-day control valve actuation and control-valve body design.

The 2003 award was presented to Mr Gerry by the President of the ISA, Robert Ives, who commented: "Few people in the industry have not heard of John Gerry and his loop tuning and analysis software".

In accepting the Award, Mr Gerry paid tribute to his team, saying: "This award underscores our commitment towards making ExperTune the leader in process optimisation software".

He added: "Our latest technology, PlantTriage, is a plant-wide performance monitor that has successfully saved millions of dollars in improved performance for the process industries".
