A complete intrinsically safe and explosion proof wireless network solution, with associated devices, is now available from Extronics, for use by the process industry in hazardous areas

Extronics, the leading UK supplier and manufacturer of intrinsically safe and explosion proof electrical and electronic equipment, has launched a complete range of wireless network products for hazardous environments - developed based on class leading wireless networking hardware The Extronics wireless access points, MESH routers, active WiFi RFID tags and antennae, are the first complete solution for wireless networks in potentially explosive environments, allowing the process industries to automate their data capture and allowing assets and people to be located and tracked in real time through-out the entire plant

Extronics has created its range of products, in conjunction with market leading technology partners, to overcome the costs and timescales required to develop and certify voice and data networks and devices for extreme environments, by taking advantage of the initial investment of the original OEM, and re-engineering the equipment to suit the hazardous environments found in the process industries.

By working with a combination of a few key prominent wireless network technology companies, Extronics brings customers the most advanced, feature rich, intrinsically safe and explosion proof network available, based on the worldwide 802.11 standard.

Through its iWAP range of wireless access points Extronics can provide technologies such as WLAN, MESH routing, real time location, VoIP and telemetry.

Extronics has also developed its wide range of the associated iANT antennas to provide optimum coverage, bandwidth and distance for a variety of applications.

Paul Lazor, Sales and Marketing Director at Extronics, commented, "Many facilities with hazardous areas have been held back in their drive for greater productivity because either the combination of cost and disruption to the site had ruled out installing wireless networks, or the technology was not available in the wider market to make wireless solutions robust and reliable enough.

We have now reached a stage where we see a huge range of wireless and hand held devices that have the potential to revolutionise the process industries and we've set ourselves at the forefront of that today by launching our network and product range for use in extreme environments.

We're looking forward to helping create some exciting developments on-site in the process industries in 2008".

All of the Extronics products are certified by notified bodies as intrinsically safe or explosion proof for use in extreme environments, making it the largest range of specifically tailored products for hazardous areas on the market to date.

The range is designed for companies in the process industries that need to mobilise and track their workforce or assets within hazardous facilities.

Moreover the wireless network opens up the workplace by automating processes and data gathering and allowing for the information to be accessed anywhere within a facility.
