New Extronics iWAP400 Zone 1 USB WiFi adaptor
Extronics, a leading supplier and manufacturer of intrinsically safe and explosion proof electrical and electronic equipment, has announced the launch of the iWAP400, an ATEX approved USB WiFi adaptor
The increased safety, encapsulated and intrinsically safe WiFi adaptor enables any explosion proof panel PC, purge PC or any PC based device with a USB port to be connected to a WiFi network safely in zone 1 extreme and hazardous environments.
"Extronics has a commitment to wireless technology and has always looked beyond just offering a 'transmitter in a box'," said John Hartley, Technical Director of Extronics: "This WiFi adapter is an important part of our complete wireless network offering, helping our customers unlock the data in their facilities efficiently and cost effectively.
The fact that it operates in many different environments and with a variety of PC platforms means that it has many potential applications in industries dealing with hazardous and extreme areas".
The iWAP400 has been designed to be placed in a wide range of locations and operate in conjunction with any PC with a USB interface.
The WiFi adapter, housed in a rugged aluminium enclosure, IP66 rated and epoxy coated, is certified for use in Zone 1 environments and is safe to use between -20C and +60C.
Consequently the iWAP400 is suitable for mounting in hazardous areas whether indoors or outdoors.
Due to its compact size the adaptor can be installed inside Ex PC enclosures, such as the Gecma Components Explorer, but as it is powered via a standard USB port the iWAP400 is equally suitable for any device that is USB enabled.
The adapter uses a WiFi certified transmitter module, delivering 63mW of intrinsically safe output power compatible with the 802.11 b/g standard.
The intrinsically safe RF output is suitable for use with a variety of antennas.
The Extronics range of iANT200 antennas can be connected for use in Zone 1 hazardous areas.
When used with the iANT207 antenna it provides 100mW EIRP providing the best possible transmission distance.
