The International Water and Effluent Exhibition (IWEX) at Birmingham from 1-3 May includes a number of new exciting features, and is co-located with ET+ES, Nemex, and ICU

New for IWEX 2007 is a conference programme on the first day of the event Co-hosted with the Environmental Industries Commission, the conference will centre around the theme of 'Sustainable Water Management', with a programme of speakers that promises to be both informative and thought provoking

Opening with a keynote address from Sir John Harman, chairman of the Environment Agency, on 'The Future of the Water Environment', the day will also include sessions on 'Using Water Efficiently: Intelligent Water Conservation' and the 'Periodic Review 2010 - 2015: end of boom and bust?'.

Key speakers include Pamela Taylor, chief executive of Water UK; Tony Smith, chief executive of the Consumer Council for Water and representatives from Defra and the Environment Agency.

In addition to the conference programme, a series of free seminars and practical workshops will run across all three days of the IWEX event.

Already confirmed are sessions on Water Efficiency for Businesses, hosted by Envirowise; Cost effective Use of Trenchless Technology, hosted by TT-UK; Water Resource Efficiency and its Implications, hosted by NISP; Energy Saving Steps for Water Operators, hosted by ABB and Barriers to Innovation in the UK Water Industry, hosted by British Water and UKWIR with PREST.

On the Thursday there are also a series of sessions around skills and training in the water, waste, gas and electricity industries.

All this means IWEX 2007 really is an event not to be missed for those working in the water and waste water sectors.

IWEX joins the Sustainabilitylive! forum, organised by Faversham House Group.

This year the IWEX forms part of Sustainabilitylive! - the UK's largest forum for excellence and innovation in water, environment, land and energy.

Catherine Iredale, exhibitions director of Faversham House Group, commented: "For the first time everybody working in the water, environment, land and energy sectors will be able to find the knowledge, inspiration and answers they need all in one place.

The event will give visitors the opportunity to gather the latest industry and legislative news and network with their peers.

By bringing these events together (IWEX, ET+ES - the Environmental Technology and Services Exhibitions, Nemex - National Energy Management Exhibition, and ICU - the International Clean-Up event) we hope to make it easier for people working across these sectors to maximise the value of their time out of the office".

For process engineering and management professionals there are a number of sessions at these other events that may be specifically relevant to them.

For example, Nemex opens with an address from Sir John Harman, chairman of the Environment Agency, on 'Energy Efficiency for Businesses'.

Wednesday's seminar will focus on 'Issues and Impacts Relating to Climate Change', and begins with a presentation from Peter Ainsworth MP, shadow secretary of state for the environment and rural affairs.

The ET+ES event includes sessions on the requirements necessary to meet Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control regulations and focuses on the business benefits of a resource efficient economy.

ET+ES will also concentrate on how to prepare for Reach; the biggest piece of EU legislation to hit the chemicals industry in 20 years.

Taking effect in June 2007, Reach will apply to anyone who produces, imports or uses chemicals; affecting most businesses operating within or selling into the European Union.

The Environment Agency is also making a welcome return to the event as a major exhibitor, hosting a seminar session on 'New Approaches to Permitting: Reducing Industry's Administrative Burden', as well as briefing sessions on their stand.

Joining the Environment Agency at ET+ES will be WSP Environmental, UKTI, BSI Management Systems and Envirowise.
