Chinese manufacturers can now access maintenance, MRO and procurement information in their native language.

FBO Systems (FBOS) has translated its primary software solution, MLS, into Simplified Chinese, allowing manufacturers to deploy the automated system further down the operational ladder.

MLS, which is already available in English, Castilian, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, allows customers to actively manage maintenance workflow, capital projects, spare parts inventory and procurement.

"The Chinese are very forward thinking when it comes to utilising software in their manufacturing facilities," explains Bo Hagler of the Atlanta-based FBOS.

"However, the majority of this software is imported.

As a result, to enter the required data into the system, Chinese manufacturers must rely on a handful of employees who understand the software developers' language.

By using software written in the users' native language, in this case Chinese, manufacturers can expand access to the software and lessen their administration burden.

Further, users who are now able to directly interface with the software better understand the benefits of the data being collected and can directly utilise that data in their jobs".

According to senior management at companies like Lion Nathan, a major brewery in Shanghai, FBO Simplified Chinese MLS version is making it easy for staff to understand and employ the enterprise asset management tool.

With immediate access to knowledge generated by MLS, these users are more involved and, consequently, more effective.

"All trends indicate that China's demand for software is going to escalate dramatically in this decade," adds Mr Hagler.

"In fact, IDC has forecasted software demand growth at 26 per cent per annum.

However, it is going to become increasingly imperative that this software be translated into Chinese as manufacturers realize the only way to effectively involve employees in day-to-day operations is through their native language".
