Employees at Fibercore Limited, Europe's premier speciality optical fibre manufacturer, had a Kepner-Tregoe workshop as part of the company drive to deliver world class solutions for its customers

Employees at Fibercore Limited, Europe's premier speciality optical fibre manufacturer, have recently undertaken a Kepner-Tregoe management workshop as part of the company drive to deliver world class solutions for its customers The training programme was has enabled Fibercore to fine tune its approach to creative problem solving and decision making

Fibercore Managing Director Dr Chris Emslie explains, "Innovation is part of our heritage at Fibercore.

It is fair to say, however, that we deliver our most creative solutions when we work hand-in-glove with our customers.

By understanding individual customer requirements, including its manufacturing process and the intended final application for a fibre, enables us to provide a total fibre solution.

One client has described this approach as 'being like consultancy with the fibre thrown in for free'!".

Kepner-Tregoe is currently used by 40 percent of the largest companies worldwide including Boeing, AstraZeneca and Citigroup, and was most famously used by NASA to avert a disaster on the Apollo XIII mission.

Its methodology uses four basic thinking questions when dealing with problem solving and decision making; what's going on? why did this happen? which course of action should we take? and what lies ahead? and it encourages individuals to use adopt rational processes for deciding what action to take.

Chris Emslie explains, "This approach, if used effectively, will generate the right answer far more quickly and efficiently than traditional `change everything and pray' or `stare at it until it goes away' approaches that others in the industry may adopt.

The result will be creative solutions to customer requirements based on proven problem solving methodology.

The workshop at Fibercore is part of a wider programme of organisational and process development at the company to coincide with the recent commissioning of a new production facility and headquarters which has bought the production and administrative functions of the business together.
