CM Series Coriolis flowmeters receive FM approval

A Fluid Components International product story
Edited by the Processingtalk editorial team Mar 23, 2007

The breakthrough CM Series Coriolis flowmeters from FCI have received FM approval for hazardous area service, ideal for chemical, food/beverage, oil/gas and pharmaceutical applications

The breakthrough CM Series Coriolis flowmeters from Fluid Components International, which feature superior accuracy in challenging application environments including large line sizes and corrosive fluids, have been certified by FM [and FMC (Canada)] as Class I, Div I, Groups A, B, C and D, rated for service in hazardous locations where combustible gases may be present.

FCI designed the advanced CM Series with a leading-edge Coriolis flow sensor and superior mechanical isolation to eliminate vibration effects, enhance measurement accuracy and minimise installation cost.

They offer distinct performance, ease of installation and value advantages in larger line sizes up to 12 inches, for flow rates to 80,000 lbs/min (2200 metric tons/hr) and in corrosive fluids requiring exotic material construction.

From clean fluids to the harshest of chemicals, liquids to gases, low flows to high flows, small to larger line sizes, high pressures and everything in between, there is an optimal CM Series flow meter solution available from FCI.

The CM Series includes three different models, a common full-featured transmitter and an array of accessories to configure a complete Coriolis flow measurement system.

The Model CMM flow meter features the widest standard configuration selection of the most popular and exotic wetted surface materials available for service in harsh fluids.

From water to acids, to corrosives, and even hazardous safety sensitive fluids such as phosgene, the Model CMM provides accurate flow metering.

The CMM flowmeter has wetted surface parts available in nine standard materials that ensure compatibility and long-life.

The available standard materials include: stainless steel, carbon steel, Hastelloy B, Hastelloy C-22, Monel, nickel, tantalum, titanium and zirconium.

Until now the choice of standard wetted surface materials available from other Coriolis flow meters suppliers has been limited.

This meant that many processes suitable for Coriolis flow metering had to settle for less accuracy or no measurement.

Designed for service in line sizes from 1/8 to 2 inches (DN 6 to DN50), the CMM flow meter is a versatile flow measurement solution for flow rates up to 1460 lb/min (40,000 kg/hr) that is ideal for use in a wide range of processes.

The CMM is accurate to 0.1 percent in liquids and to 0.5 percent in gases, and can handle temperatures to 500F [260C].

For liquid applications demanding the utmost in accuracy, the CMM has an optional 10-point calibration service to boost accuracy to a superior 0.05 percent.

The Model CMU is designed for line sizes from 0.25 to 12 inches (DN 8 to DN 300), and measures flow rates from 2.2 to 80,800 lb/hr (60 to 2,200,00 kg/hr).

The CMU provides true mass flow measurement with superior accuracy, while at the same time measuring fluid temperature, density and volumetric flow - making it a truly multivariable process measurement tool that reduces the need for other sensors.

The CMU accuracy range is 0.1 to 0.15 percent in liquids (depending on line size) and 0.5 percent in gases.

With its high accuracy, excellent repeatability and multivariable parameter measurement capabilities, the CMU meets the stringent industry requirements for applications in custody transfer, precision product line batching and test-stand performance measurement.

The innovative flow sensor design in the Model CMB employs minimal welding and exclusive vibration dampening technology.

The result is superior performance, low maintenance, long-life and value in a compact instrument with a footprint as small as 11.8inches (300mm) wide by 15 inches (380mm) high by 4 inches (105mm) deep.

The Model CMB Flow Meter offers 0.15% accuracy at flow rates up to 2205 lb/min (60,000 kg/hr) in line sizes up to 3 inches (76mm).

The CMB flow sensor operates over a wide temperature range from -40 to +356F (-40 to +180C).

It withstands pressures up to 580psi [40Bar], and the sensor is protected by a lightweight die-cast housing for long-life in demanding industrial processes and plants.

Fluid Components International is a global company committed to meeting the needs of its customers through innovative solutions to the most challenging requirements for sensing, measuring and controlling the flow and level of air, gases and liquids.
