New fieldbus chip available from AMI
The Fieldbus Foundation announces the availability of a new Fieldbus Media Attachment Unit (MAU) interface chip from AMUI Semiconductor, to substitute for the obsolete Yokogawa uSAA22Q
The Fieldbus Foundation has announced that AMI Semiconductor, a manufacturer of integrated mixed-signal and structured digital products, has introduced the AMIS-49200 Fieldbus Media Attachment Unit (MAU) The new device can be used as a 'near' pin-for-pin replacement for the Yokogawa uSAA22Q transceiver, which is no longer in production

The AMIS-49200 Fieldbus MAU provides a physical interface between bus wiring and actual measurement devices in industrial process automation applications.
The unit meets the specifications of the IEC-61158-2, H1 (ISA-SP50.02-1992), and EN 50170 physical layer standard, including the Foundation fieldbus H1 protocol.
It is intended for use with Type 111 and Type 112 H1 devices per the Foundation fieldbus specification FF-816 (31.25 kbit/s physical layer profile).
According to the Fieldbus Foundation Product Manager for Fieldbus Products, Stephen Mitschke, the AMIS-49200 is an easy, cost-effective replacement for fieldbus product developers currently employing the discontinued Yokogawa uSAA22Q chip.
"We are pleased that AMI Semiconductor has released a state-of-the-art MAU specifically designed for the growing fieldbus market," said Mitschke: "The AMIS-49200 has the same footprint and power consumption as the Yokogawa IC, and is the only direct replacement for this device currently available".
The AMIS-49200 is the latest addition to the AMI Semiconductor line of advanced industrial automation transceivers.
The device operates in environments from -40 to 85C.
Features include: 44-pin plastic LQFP, low current consumption (600uA typical), standard MDS/MAU interface, 31.25 kbit/s voltage mode, dual voltage regulators (3 and 6.2V), and voltage level monitoring.
Although not an exact replacement for the Yokogawa uSAA22Q, the AMIS-49200 Fieldbus MAU provides an easy avenue for developers to follow, in building their Foundation fieldbus products.
The AMIS-49200 is currently available at a price of US$9.38 per 1000 units.
