Dr Graeme Philp elected to EMEA Council
The Fieldbus Foundation today announced that Dr Graeme Philp has been elected as Vice-Chairman to its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Executive Advisory Council (EAC).
Dr Philp is Chief Executive of the MTL Instruments Group, based in Luton, UK, and has been a member of the EMEA EAC since its inauguration in February 2005 Elections took place at the annual meeting held during the recent Interkama 2007 international trade fair in Hannover, Germany

The Fieldbus Foundation EMEA EAC, a committee of senior executives from the EMEA leading control and instrumentation companies, was established in February 2005 in response to growing demand for Foundation fieldbus in the EMEA industrial market.
The advisory council is dedicated to promoting the adoption of Foundation technology by automation equipment suppliers and end users and it ensures the funding and availability of human resources to support local fieldbus marketing activities across the EMEA region.
Implementation of the EAC directives and the development of regional marketing initiatives are undertaken by the Fieldbus Foundation EMEA Steering Committee together with local marketing groups.

Dr Gunther Kegel, Chairman of the EMEA EAC and member of the Fieldbus Foundation Board of Directors, welcomed Dr Philp to the position.
"I am delighted that Graeme has been elected as Vice-Chairman of the EAC and I'm looking forward to working closely with him as Foundation fieldbus technology moves forward.
He has been directly involved with Foundation technology for several years now and can offer many valuable insights - especially on the practical application of intrinsic safety techniques to the physical layer which is a major consideration within today's marketplace".
Dr Philp added, "I'm looking forward to having a higher level of involvement within the EAC.
The council's role is dynamic and challenging - the significant CAPEX and OPEX savings achievable through the implementation of Foundation fieldbus are now more widely understood, but the applicability of fieldbus will be further enhanced through the use of high speed Ethernet (HSE) both in control networks and as a remote I/O bus.
This, together with the use of wireless networks, safety instrumented systems, and the progress made with electronic device descriptions language (EDDL) integration, will offer end users and systems integrators even more benefits in the future".
Dr Philp has over 30 years of process control experience starting as a student apprentice in 1976 with the UK process control company, Kent Instruments .
He graduated from the University of Wales with an honours degree in electronics in 1980 and gained a PhD for research into optical sensors for process control at UMIST, Manchester, UK, in 1984.
He joined the design and development department of the Kent Industrial Instruments division where he became Technical Director, and then Business Unit Director when ABB Kent-Taylor was formed.
In July 1991 he joined Measurement Technology (MTL) as Group Technical and Marketing Director with responsibility for the development and implementation of strategies for new products, marketing and manufacturing across the group, and was subsequently appointed as Managing Director the following year, and Chief Executive in 1995.
