The new FF Podcast describes how Foundation fieldbus technology can change the automation "playing field", by relating end user experiences in the process industries

The Fieldbus Foundation has announced the release of a podcast describing fieldbus end user experiences in the process industries, entitled "Changing the playing field with Foundation Technology" The Fieldbus Foundation podcast concerns the implementation of a fieldbus-based automation infrastructure enabling new levels of operational excellence

The podcast describes how Foundation fieldbus unifies open scalable integration, process integrity, and business intelligence as part of a single, plant-wide managed infrastructure.

The Podcast interviews include the following:.

* Darrol Weiss, City of Calgary, discussing the City of Calgary Water Treatment Division and its construction of a world-class utility with a complex system of water and wastewater treatment plants, water mains, reservoirs and pumping stations.

* Chuck Hartshorn, Reichhold, describes the evolution of the Reichhold fieldbus installation, starting with a series of retrofit projects in the late 1990s, to an extensive control system and instrumentation upgrade completed in 2005.

* Denny Fetters of Croda describes the replacement of a legacy Distributed Control System (DCS) with Foundation technology.

Fieldbus devices were installed in a hazardous Class 1, Div 2 area using the Fieldbus Non-Incendive Concept (FNICO).

* Doug Dalton, of Memphis Zoo, describes how intelligent motor control and digital fieldbus technologies were employed as part of an HVAC system used to control water and air quality in the zoo wildlife exhibit.

Foundation technology is the world's leading digital infrastructure for process automation.

It provides end users with the "Freedom to Choose" best-in-class, interoperable control products from their suppliers of choice, and the "Power to Integrate" control systems, subsystems and devices across the plant enterprise.

The result is improved plant performance - and greater business results.

The Fieldbus Foundation podcast is sponsored by Emerson Process Management, MTL, Rockwell Automation and Yokogawa.
